TANZANIA TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrive in Tanzania, transfer from airport and dinner and overnight in Kibosho village (Lodge with a bright and closer Kilimanjaro view)
Day 2 Arusha national park, guided walking Safari, visiting John Wayne's house for a hot meal.
Arusha national park, just 30 kilometres east of Arusha city and 60 kilometres from Kilimanjaro international Airport, is an extraordinary tourist attraction due to its spectacular landscapes and the flora making the park beautifully green throughout the year. This park also has the second highest peak in Tanzania, Mount Meru.
With a lower number of predators in this park compared to others walking safaris are allowed meaning you can get an up-close view of the rich variety of wildlife here including cape buffalo, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and flamingos.
The topography of this park is outstanding with seven different alkaline lakes, the Ngurdoto crater, waterfalls, gorges and swamps. There is also the opportunity for canoeing on Momella lake.
A fun fact about Arusha National Park is that it even starred in an American movie! The 1962 action adventure romantic comedy film HATARI! starring John Wayne was shot here. John Wayne’s character lived in a house in the park which is now called Hatari lodge which we will visit for a hot meal and some pop culture references.
Back to Kibosho Village for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 From Kibosho village to Ngorongoro crater visit Maasai village, Olduvai gorge (the cradle of Mankind) and the Shifting sand
Dinner and overnight in Serengeti national park
In the south-east of Serengeti National Park lies the incredible Ngorongoro, a national conservation area. Occupying 8300 square kilometres the geographical features of Ngorongoro Conservation Area include grasslands, plains, Savannah woodlands, mountains, forests, volcanic crater, lakes, rivers and swamps.
You will visit the Olduvai Gorge which is not only impressive in its enormous scale but also a globally significant paleoanthropological site as hominin remains were discovered here dating to an incredible 2 million years ago! Evidence of the hominin evolution into hominids was also discovered.
The Ngorongoro Crater is another site we will visit that will leave you utterly breathless. It is the world’s largest inactive and unfilled volcanic crater spanning an incredible 260 square kilometres. The crater is home to approximately 25,000 animals and even has its own lake with hippos! Other animals you can see here are zebras, buffaloes and black rhinos making you feel like you are in the middle of Jurassic Park. The crater is home to the one of the densest known populations of lions and if you’re lucky you’ll even see a leopard, meaning Ngorongoro crater is one of the few places you can witness all members of the Big five in a single game drive.
You will also visit the unique phenomenon of the Shifting Sands, a huge black dune made of volcanic ash that moves an astonishing 15 to 20 metres every year. Following this you will visit the Maasai villages to experience their culture; this is a great chance for dancing and interacting with the last true tribe of Africa.
The Serengeti, derived from Maasai language meaning “Endless plains”, holds the largest number of lions in Africa with more than 3000 lions in the park.
Throughout the park you can see elegant African leopards and strong sturdy black rhinos. If you look carefully and stay focussed you will even see the fastest animal on the planet, the incredible cheetah.
The Serengeti is home to a myriad of bird species including the kaleidoscopic Lilac Breasted Roller, a marvel for bird enthusiasts and wonderful to photograph.
As you explore the Serengeti you will witness fantastic varieties of vegetation and iconic African species such as elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and giraffes but don’t forget to look down as well so you can spot the gorgeous leopard tortoise.
If you venture out at night, there is also a fantastic host of nocturnal wildlife for you to see and of course the incredible star studded sky.
Great Migration
The annual migration of giant herds of grazers across Northern Tanzania and Kenya is a truly spectacular event. It is also called the great Wildebeest Migration.
Over two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move through the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems in a regular pattern, in search of green pastures. This is surely one of the greatest wonders of the natural world.
Day 4 Full day exploring Serengeti and experiencing the Wildebeest great migration
Day5 Full day exploring Serengeti.
Day 6 From Serengeti to Lake Natron,
Dinner and camping at Natron.
Lake Natron is a Salt Lake in the North of Tanzania which has a beautiful red orange hue due to the frequent evaporation of the lake increasing the salinity and attracting bacteria which makes the lake red. A beautiful example of nature and science giving us beauty.
Yet nature has even more to show us at Lake Natron; millions of flamingos flock here every year and use the mud flats of the lake as a breeding ground. You will have to opportunity to hike across the Salt Lake with these millions of flamingos. Or, for the adventurous, you can trek up the Oldoinyo Lengai, an active volcanic mountain! A hike to the top of Oldoinyo Lengai offers a chance to view the molten lava inside. After experiencing the heat of the volcano you can then cool off on a bathing excursion to Natron’s Waterfall.

Zanzibar is an incredible archipelago with so much history, culture and places to visit so, for the last few days of our tour, we will remain here.
Firstly, we will take a tour of Stone Town. Stone Town is the capital of Zanzibar and the centre of Swahili culture. There are Swahili cultural events throughout the year including the music festival in February and film festival in July, so your guide may be able to tell you what’s happening while you’re there. Multi-cultural influences are evident in the architecture of Stone Town sue to it’s history; now Stone town is the centre for shopping, eating and accommodation that is always active and can be visited all year round.
Visit the city and experience the true culture of Zanzibar, walking through the narrow alleys and see the doors that are over 200 years old! Visit the famous house of the wonder of the Sultan, the greatest Old market in East Africa, The Cathedral Church and the Old dispensary. A leisurely stroll on the promenade is a serene, relaxing activity where you can interact with the locals, be greeted by the scents of beautiful spices and aromas, capture envy inducing photos and truly take in everything this town has to offer.
After your tour of Stone Town, you will take a boat from Forodhani Garden to Prison Island. You will learn about the history of the island that was a place where prisoners and slaves were kept. Now that same place is a centre for the endangered giant tortoises that are native here and you will be able to see and take glorious pictures of them.
We take a different type of safari today, this time on the stunning azure waters! We will sail to Kwale Island and indulge in a tasty barbeque feast right on the beach. Enjoy tasty treats, including refreshing drinks and lots of fresh, delicious seafood.
Then we will take a leisurely ride by boat to the mangrove swamp, keeping a close eye out for wildlife on our route and taking in the interesting landscape.
On return to the pure, white, sandy beaches we relax on the bank and excite our taste buds with different types of refreshing fruit.
After our filling lunch and scenic boat trips, we then go to see the 500-year-old baobab trees which tower over us with their enormous trunks making one wonder on the power of nature and how humbling it is.
